about

Nothing is Accomplished (2018) was created at Laboratory, a resident artist program in Spokane, WA in September of 2018. This work is based on John Cage’s manifesto which introduces his 1961 book, Silence. Four speakers were recorded reading the manifesto in English, Spanish, Korean, and Ukrainian. In addition, recorded samples from the internet of John Cage reading and talking were extracted to reproduce John Cage reading the manifesto himself. These recordings were manipulated down to the phonemic level and along with recordings of found objects in the recording environment and electric guitar rendition of John Cage’s In a Landscape (1948) were combined to make this ten-minute work. In May of 2019 the Vincas Green choreographed Nothing is Accomplished and Grattage For Prepared Piano, Voice, Appalachian Dulcimer, and Central American Flute (2019) for his Vytal Movement Dance Company of Spokane, WA. The work, Merce C, was a celebration of Merce Cunningham’s 100 Birthday.
